Olivu derives from the Malayalam word for hidden—a name that encapsulates the spirit of this residence. Facing the road, the house presents a carefully composed architectural gesture: a pair of sweeping curved walls that glide across the front facade. These sculptural elements suggest concealment, as though the home is veiled from view, yet in reality they touch only the edges, leaving the center plane open and honest. This subtle illusion between exposure and privacy forms the conceptual backbone of the design.

The facade becomes a dialogue between revelation and restraint. From afar, the curving forms read as a protective screen, softening the building’s presence along the street. As one approaches, the geometry unfolds, revealing that the structure is not hidden at all but thoughtfully framed. The architecture thus transforms perception into experience—what first appears closed gradually discloses openness, embodying the poetic essence of its name.

Beyond this layered frontage, the house opens generously outward. Large, strategically positioned apertures draw in light, air, and uninterrupted views, dissolving the boundary between interior and exterior. Spaces feel continuous rather than enclosed, encouraging visual flow and spatial calm. This outward orientation balances the guarded street facade, ensuring that privacy toward the public realm coexists with expansiveness toward the private landscape.

Olivu is therefore not merely a residence but a spatial narrative—one that explores concealment, revelation, and climatic sensitivity through form. Its architecture demonstrates that privacy need not rely on walls alone; sometimes, it is the suggestion of enclosure, the curve of a line, or the direction of a roof that shapes how a home is seen, felt, and lived.
