Located on a compact 8-cent plot, the Courtyard House is a 2,500 sq.ft G+1 residence organized around a private open-to-sky courtyard that forms the spatial and climatic core of the house. Concealed within a clean, contemporary exterior, the courtyard reveals a tropical interpretation of the traditional Indian house, bringing rain, light, and ventilation into the everyday life of the interiors.

The plan is subtly rotated, creating a gentle angular geometry that defines the public living area as a distinct volume while enhancing the architectural expression from the street. The living space projects as a semi-public zone, while the more private family areas are organized beyond the courtyard.

Visually connected yet spatially layered, the courtyard establishes privacy while maintaining continuity between the living, dining, and bedroom spaces. Designed for a tropical monsoon climate, the open-to-sky core allows seasonal rain to become part of the spatial experience while ensuring controlled access and safety.

The project explores a balance between modern expression and inward-looking domesticity, creating a simple, calm, and climate-responsive home centered around a hidden inner landscape.
